Frequently Asked Questions

1. I am not sure about my language skill level, which level will be the best for me to enrol?

Please see our language levels description page and levels explained of the CEFR to assist you in deciding which level is suitable. You can also contact us or do our online test. No formal qualifications are required to enrol onto one of our language courses.

2. Who can attend language courses with Tertulia?

Everyone is welcome to enrol in our courses.

3. Will I have to do homework?

You are not obliged to do homework, but we recommend it as practice is an essential part of learning a new language to make progress. For this reason, all courses require an extra hour of self-study per week. Your tutor would also provide any extra support/training you may require.

4. I have not studied a language for years – will I cope?

Yes, classes are specifically designed to cater for the needs of all learners in this situation according to their needs and capabilities. Also, all our lessons are delivered in a friendly and relaxing way.

5. Do I need to enrol before my first lesson?

Yes. Once you’ve chosen your course you can enrol online and then you will need to pay for your course. You can pay online or by Bank transfer. Once you have paid you will receive an email response confirming that your purchase has been received and your name will be added to the register and the tutor will know you are entitled to attend.

6. Can I enrol after the course has started?

You may be allowed to join classes after the starting date. If you wish to do so, you must first check the availability of places with the Course Manager (info@tertulia.co.uk), who will then see if it is possible for you to join the class.

7. How do I pay my course fees?

Course fees vary from course to course and we work hard to ensure they are as affordable as possible and deliver excellent value for money. You can pay by PayPal through our website using either your debit, credit card or your own PayPal account, by cheque payable to Tertulia, or by cash. Our policy is not to add an extra Enrolment fee. You will pay for the cost of the course only.

8. Are there any discounts on the course fees?

We do not offer discounts or concessionary rates. Every student pays the same set fee.

9. Do I need to buy a textbook?

Most tutors follow a course textbook, and it is essential that learners have something to work from. Information about textbooks and resources will usually be given out by the tutor during the first class. It will also be useful to have a dictionary in the target language. Ask your tutor about other resources as they are often able to recommend useful websites/books.

10. When and where are classes held?

Times and days can be found on our web page. Our courses take place in different training venues or online and they run throughout the year from September to June.

11. What do I do if I am unable to attend a class?

We understand that sometimes you are unable to attend a class. Your tutor will give keep the handouts for you for the following week. Alternatively, if you let us know (info@tertulia.co.uk) we will send you the handouts. You will normally be able to catch up without undue difficulty.

12. Can I get a refund if I withdraw from a course?

Refunds are only given under exceptional circumstances, such as serious and documented illness (with a medical certificate). No refunds will be given once classes have started. You will be asked to read this under the terms and conditions when enrolling. Please ensure you have read these through thoroughly.

13. Can I receive any certification at the end of the course?

Attendance certificates are available on request for students who attend more than 70% of lessons.

14. Can I enrol offline?
